Searching an archive from a mobile device is a function an increasing number of companies are viewing as vital.
Brian Pinnock, Cyber Resilience Expert at Mimecast, told Intelligent CIO that the requirements in the way companies want to use archive is changing with developments in technology.
“The key thing about the archive is first of all you want it to be accessible and you want it to be searchable really quickly,” said Pinnock.
“What we’re finding now is that more and more organisations use mobiles, so they also want to be able to access their archive when they’re mobile.
“Surprisingly, not a lot of archives are actually able to do that.”
Pinnock also pointed out that there are other problems with many archiving systems.
“The other big issue with organisations is if you have on-premise archiving type solutions, you’re often hit with, first of all, complexity that you weren’t expecting,” said Pinnock.
“Then the other one which you’ll see all the time is unexpected costs. The costs go up all the time.
“It’s also very difficult to predict how big your archive is. You’ve got to pay all the time as your archive grows. What happens is organisations are getting more and more unstructured data.”
